On an Android phone or tablet running Android 10 or later, download the APK, then open the downloaded file. If Android asks, allow this browser or file manager to install Open Bible. You can turn that permission off again after installation. Google Play Protect can still check the app.

The download panel shows the app version, build number, file size, and the file's SHA-256 checksum. To check a downloaded file, compare its checksum with the one shown, for example with shasum -a 256 on a Mac, sha256sum on Linux, or certutil -hashfile FILE SHA256 on Windows.

For updates, install the newer APK over the existing Open Bible app to keep your notes and plans. If you previously installed a developer debug build, export your saved items before removing it; Android cannot replace a build signed with a different key.

The APK works only on Android. App Store and Google Play releases are coming soon.

Yes. The four included translations, search, study tools, notes, and reading plans work without an internet connection. The app does not require an account.

The Berean Standard Bible (BSB), World English Bible (WEB), King James Version (KJV), and Russian Synodal translation (SYNOD) are included. Choose a translation from the reader's translation picker. Source notices appear under About this translation.

Open Reading preferences in the reader. You can change the theme, typeface, text size, line height, margins, and verse layout. Some options depend on the selected translation.

Open Search and enter a Bible reference, a word, or a phrase. Results put exact matches first. Select a result to open it in the reader.

They are stored locally in the app. Saved contains your notes and highlights, and Plans contains your reading schedules and progress. The app does not provide its own cloud sync. Device backups depend on your system settings.

Before deleting the app, export anything you want to keep and check your device backups. Offloading an app and deleting it have different effects on its saved data.

The optional importer is under Reading preferences → Beta → Your own translations. It accepts Open Bible translation bundles through your device’s file picker (or AirDrop on Apple devices). It does not download translations or open other Bible apps' formats. Only import content you have permission to use.

Some translations number passages differently. Where passages cannot be aligned reliably, parallel reading or cross-references are unavailable. About this translation explains these differences.

Close and reopen Open Bible, check that your device has free storage, and install available app and operating system updates. Avoid deleting the app while troubleshooting unless your notes and other data are backed up.
